Accesories for mother of the bride dress

My daughter is having a December wedding. Her dress is white with a cathedral train and veil. Her BMs and MOH are wearing Apple Red floor-length dresses and they are all (Bride also) wearing pearls. The Groom and his attendants will be wearing black with red vests.

Together we chose a cream, chiffon-type, straight, floor length dress for me. There is irridescent beading on the front of the jacket and on the bottom front section of the skirt. With the beading do I need any other jewelry besides earrings and what color should those be? We both love the dress but I'm also concerned about the cream color next to her white. is it okay?

Also what would be a complimentary color for the MOG?

Hello MOB,

Your dress sounds stunning! Your accessories really depend on the neckline of your outfit. Since the bead work is on the bottom of the skirt and on the jacket a beautiful pair of earrings and/or necklace would look great.

If the neckline of your dress is high, then you don't have to wear a necklace, but I would make sure that your earrings make a statement. Earrings that shimmer with crystals would match well with the bead work on your dress. You could wear a chandelier earring, an earring that is long with a cluster of crystals at the bottom, or the trendy stiletto drop earring. The stiletto drop earring is gorgeous and all of the stars are wearing them. If you aren't exactly sure what I am talking about, it is a long earring that is narrow and has a wide bottom. Whether it goes from narrow to wide or has a brilliant gem at the bottom, either looks magnificent.

If your dress doesn't have a high neckline then you can definitely wear a necklace. If the neckline is high, where it hits around your collarbone, then you should wear a choker if you want to wear something around your neck.

Note: if you are wearing both a necklace and a pair of earrings you don't want them to compete with one another. You want them to compliment each other. For example, if you wear big earrings that you want people to notice, opt for a more petite necklace.

Back to the necklace. If you have a v-neck my suggestion is to wear a necklace with a pendant or the Y-necklace. Necklaces are like necklines this season...plundging! I am sure you have noticed on tv that a lot of the celebrities wear dresses with a deep v. Trendy necklaces this season, do the same. So you can get a Y-necklace or lariet (and wear to the front) with beautiful crystals. If your neckline goes to a scoop or is straight, you can also wear the necklace with a pendant or a round shaped necklace that hugs your collarbone.

As for colors for the MOG, she should make sure that her dress compliments the color scheme that your daughter has picked. Colors that are great for a winter wedding and will look great next to apple red in the pictures are chocolate brown, platinum, gold, champagne and taupe. And, you will be fine in cream and your daughter in white. Don't be concerned. Plus, it seems like you and your daughter really like the dress and you should wear what you feel most beautiful in.

Have fun shopping for your accessories!
