My son's wedding is mid-November at 6 pm. The bride's gown is ivory and bridesmaids' dresses are hunter green. MOB has purchased two outfits and is undecided as to which she will wear. One is black evening pants with a black or dark pink top and other is royal blue gown with jacket. She indicates that she will decide at time of wedding. I have selected a dress with satin bottom and lace bodice and sleeves. I can take immediate delivery of dress in black but must order no later than this week if I choose another color. Is black OK or would another color (probably dark navy) be a better choice?

Black would be the best choice. Don't worry about the possibility of being in the same color dress as MOB: your outfits are totally different. Enjoy the wedding! Irina Feygin, IMpeccable iMage, Inc. Image and Beauty and For Princess Bride

I completely agree. Although we don't typically dress in the same color, black is the one exception. Plus, it is very different.
The only caveat here is that your outfit shouldn't be more formal than hers or revealing. Be careful. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
