I am MOG and my son is getting married at the end of Sept. 2008. I need suggestions regarding the length and color of dress I should wear. This is the setting:
Late Sat. afternoon traditional church wedding, bride wearing ivory, bridesmaids wearing floor-length chocolate brown, men wearing black tux w/choc. brown vest/tie, MOB wearing sleeveless black knee-length dress with some "sparklies" and shawl (shawl probably black also), flowers will be orange and red roses.
I personally would prefer to wear a floor-length dress. Would that be oaky? What colors would be best, especially considering the orange and red roses. The bride and my future DIL is not particular about me needing to wear any certain thing and basically has said I can wear whatever I want.
I'd really like to hear your suggestions! Thanks so much.

Mother of the Groom's dress should match the formality of the Mother of the Bride's dress. You can find an elegant ensemble of just below-the-knee or tea length dress and jacket/bolero jacket, that will look very elegant on you. As to the color, don't go by the flowers, rather take into consideration the colors the bridal party is wearing. If you select taupe with some sparkly detailing, or gold-tone or bronze/deep bronze dress, it will "tie" together all the colors, and will look great in photos even with the black outfit of the MOB.
