My daughter is having an outside wedding at a botanical park at 4:30 in the afternoon with an evening reception. She is wearing a strapless, taffeta dress in ivory. Her bridesmaids will be wearing long dresses. As the MOB, is it necessary that I wear a long dress, or would a tea length dress be appropriate?
Also, I've been searching on bridal shop sites for MOB dresses and am finding they are very costly. There is one I love, but then I found it costs over $300. I simply cannot afford a dress this costly. Is this typical, or are there other options for the MOB? I have also browsed department stores and have not found anything appropriate.

Dear Mom2Bride,
You can wear tea length as long as your dress is in the same formality as the bridesmaids.
Dresses in bridal shops tend to be on the high side. I find fantastic dresses in stores all of the time. Hopefully you will too.

Thank you both for your help. I did browse some on EBay and Chadwick's, however, I did not find the style I'm looking for. I agree the prices are great!
I've attached two styles that I feel would compliment my figure. I'm a young 44 and small in size (generally wear a size 4). Could you direct me to where I could find similar styles that are not as costly as these?

I wouldn't be able to tell you about stores having specific styles but I'm sure you will find something online or in some local shops. You should have a fairly easy time of it with your size. Start your search:
If you have a favorite designer then Google the name of the designer to find shops online carrying the designer's dresses, maybe at more affordable prices. Also check out local consignment shops. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
