Is Black Appropriate for Mother of the Bride

Is it appropiate for the Mother of the Bride to wear a long Black dress to the wedding. It is a an afternoon wedding in the fall.

Dear Black Appropriate,

Not really. Black dresses should be worn for evening weddings. Besides that, unless the wedding theme has quite a bit of black in it, the MOB really should wear something a little more in keeping with the bride's colors--not exact, just coordinated.
