Ivory and pink for the Mother of the Bride

Hi,

My daughter is getting married at the end of this month. She is wearing ivory. Her bridesmaids are wearing black with a hot pink belt(not sash). The MOG and I are wearing paler shades of pink. I bought two dresses but I'm not in love with either one of them. Both are long and have jackets. The color of one dress doesn't look great on me and the bust is snug on the other. The jacket covers up this fact and fits nicely. Both of these dresses are hot. The wedding is outside and our weather is warm to hot. The third choice is a long, a-line dusty rose skirt with an ivory jacket. The buttons on the jacket are beaded and match the skirt. This ensemble is cool and comfortable. All three match the various shades of pink and rose in the flowers. The problem: My daughter does not want anyone to wear ivory. While this is her day, I have looked for months for something appropriate and comfortable. My husband prefers the skirt and jacket over either of the dresses. He feels that we have done everything to give her the wedding of her dreams and this should not be an issue.

The jacket and skirt ensemble sounds like a clear "winner". Try to reconcile it with your daughter delicately. After all, this is the only outfit you are comfortable in, and it matches the colors of the wedding nicely. Good luck and enjoy the wedding!

Dear MOB in TN,

Your daughter is boss here and if she doesn't want anyone to wear ivory, her wishes should be adhered to. However, she is following an old rule that people just don't follow any more. It really is silly and that is why it was laid to rest. Anyone can wear ivory or white as long as it doesn't appear to be a wedding dress.

The dusty rose and ivory outfit would work best because the mothers shouldn't dress in the exact color, besides black. That is the one exception.

Best wishes,
