Long dress for mother of the groom

I am the mother of the groom. The bride is wearing a formal long gown but the maids are wearing street length dresses or possibly tea length. The mother of the bride is also wearing a shorter dress. My problem is I have deformed legs due to medical condition. I am a size 14 right down to my knees then my legs balloon out horribly!! I can't wear a short dress of any kind. They all know of my affliction but have chosen the length they like, which is fine. Am I going to look totally out of place with a long gown? My choices are very limited. I don't want to seem like I have no sense of style or etiquette. Can you help? Thanks.

Dear Mayoma,

You could wear a pant suit in the same formality as the mother of the bride. This should solve your problem. If you still want to wear dress or separates, choose something in the same formality, but a bit longer.

Best wishes,
