My daughter is being married mid-October in Florida (could be cooler/could be hot) in an informal morning garden wedding. Her gown will be full length and her bridesmaids will wear long dresses in some deeper shade of purple. Should I wear a dressy (cocktail-type?) suit or a dress (and if so what kind). What are appropriate fabric choices and what length is right for this type of morning wedding. Also would appreciate color choices for this autumn wedding. I look best in deep, rich or very pale colors but "dead" in beige. Thanks.

Congratulations on your daughter's wedding! The formality of your dress should be coordinated with that of the Mother of the Groom. Color-wise, if the bridesmaids are wearing purple, you can use eggplant if you want to use deep color or lavender if you want to use pale color while staying in the same color family. Thank you for your color suggestions. Do you have any suggestions as to dress vs. suit, length, fabric, etc? I am a bit lost at this point. Thank you.

Typically you would wear a long dress if the bridesmaids are. But, it really is more about the formality of your attire. Yours should be the same as theirs. So, if you want to wear a suit, match the formality of the suit to their dresses.
Just dress conservatively. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
