My Daughter is getting married in early Sept her colors are cinnamon Apple (red)and gold; bother BM's and MOH will be in the cinnamon red. Their dress length is long, and my daughter's gown is a very formal white gown with a long train. My daughter has left it up to me to decide my dress I just want to make sure that I don't stand out and I pick the right dress! Here is my problem I am a short plus size mom ( 5'1") and don't want to look shorter(or wider). I have thought about getting a suit (skirt or pants) of the same color as the BM's and MOH's dress or in a latte color or getting a tea length dress. I will also add this will be a evening outdoor wedding as well, with a reception afterwards indoors. Do you have any suggestions, I am starting to stress alittle
I'm sorry. I'm about to add a little stress to your stress. If the bridesmaid's dresses are long and the bride's dress is formal, you are expected to wear a long formal gown. A suit or tea length dress would be more semi-formal in nature.
You wouldn't want to choose the same color as the bridesmaids but one that compliments or blends. The latte may, but you would have to take something of the bridesmaid's dress color with you to the store when you shop. You could also look for a dress with a jacket so you feel more comfortable.
Finding the perfect dress is always hard, especially for a big day like your daughter's wedding. You will need a dress that you feel comfortable and beautiful in. You have a couple of options of style dresses that will look nice on you, but you have to remember...try on everything, you won't know what looks best until you put it on. The hanger doesn't give justice to most clothing.
If you want to hide some of the tummy, look of a dress with draping in that area. You can also try a dress with ruching in the bodice. Ruching is a great way to slim down your waist. Also try a two piece outfit. Have a salesperson help you with the fit of the outfit, especially of you get a jacket. For example, most plus size women get suits with jackets that are either too long or too boxy to cover up, when that actually makes you look bigger. Suit jackets that end at the small of your back and that have darts or are princess cut, make it more fitted, and usually look better.
As for the length of your dress you can wear long or tea length. The one thing that you want to keep in mind is that tea length dresses tend to make short people look shorter, depending on the shoe. So, if you wear a higher heel that would look best with tea length dress or skirt.
thank you for your help and suggestions. I have alot to think about. Just being able to find a place and someone to ask questions has decreased some of the stress.
