MOB dress is more formal than mine, the bride

I am getting married at 10am on12/31/05. My mother has chosen a dress more formal than my dress! How can I make her understand she needs to wear a nice "church" dress. She says she is the "MOB" and deserves attention too. I am 28 and my fiance is 27 we are paying for the wedding ourselves and feel that our wishes should be respected. Please help!!!

Dear Mom Problems,

You are correct that her dress should not be more formal than yours. She may be the MOB, but she is not the host. Even if she was, she shouldn't try to outshine the bride. It is viewed as disrespectful.

I don't know what you can do besides to tell her that she is an honored guest and needs to dress as one. If she refuses... well, she is your mother and you may have to look the other way. All eyes will still be on you because you are the bride. Unfortunately, she will probably be embarrassed and others for her, because she will be noticeably overdressed.

Good luck with Mom!
