     MOB dress too formal?

My daughter's wedding is in October. Her dress is a white ballgown with lots of embellishment. The bridesmaids are wearing floor length royal blue gowns. I have selected a beautiful champagne ballgown with lace appliques, pearls and sequins and a lace bolero. It's not more formal than the bride's dress, of course, but the only embellishment on the bridesmaids' dresses is a simple rhinestone circle at the waist. I've noticed at other formal weddings I've attended recently, the MOB usually wears a long dress of dupioni silk or similar fabric with a jacket which buttons in the front. Will my dress be too formal?

Dear BlondMOB,

It sounds like your dress may be more formal than the bridesmaids' which would be a faux pas. Plus, sequins are worn only at night. So, if this isn't held during the evening, it would be too formal.

Typically the mothers would be dressed not to attract too much attention. All eyes should be on the bride. So, your dress may be a bit of an eye catcher as well.

Best wishes,
