My bridesmaid dresses are a dark blue and the base flower color is based on a watermelon color swatch which is essentially a hot pink. My mom has decided to wear a dress that will match the hot pink flowers. I would equate a hot pink dress color to a red or white dress color, you just don't do it. Is her color choice ok? Can you give me some examples of colors that would compliment the dark blue dresses. (Color is actually called Blue Velvet. It is is little brighter than royal blue.) It's a spring wedding and my mom doesn't want to be in anything that will wash her out like champaign or beige.

The more elegant choice of color for the Mom would be any of the wine colors, such as burgundy. These colors are rich and she won't look "washed out" in them. She can also wear deep gold tones, such as bronze, or chocolate, and look elegant. Hot pink is not a very good choice, but if this particular color makes her happy, you have to allow her to wear what she wants. Hopefully, you will be able to find the "golden middle".
