MOG different dresses for church and reception

I have purchased a dress for my son's wedding, but I'm not exactly thrilled with it and also I've purchased an absolutely beautiful black dress that I love. Would it be inappropriate for me to wear the dress I really don't like for the church and the black dress I love for the reception?
Would it be incorrect to wear black? Help

Dear MOG,

You are expected to coordinate with the MOB. So, if both dresses blend with hers, then it should be fine. Neither dress should be more formal than hers.

Best wishes,
