I waited much too long to seek advice. My son is getting married in a matter of weeks and I still have been unable to find a suitable dress. They are getting married outside, late afternoon, formal at a mansion site that has been renovated specifically to host weddings and such. The reception is at this beautiful location as well. The colors are clover and ivory, groom and groomsmen and wearing tuxedos. I am a plus size woman(18/20) and don't want to wear something that makes me look heavier, of course. What style and fabric would be best for this occassion? Thank you so much!!

I'm not the fashion expert, but I can help you with the appropriateness of your attire.
You should be coordinating with the mother of the bride, as you are to blend with her colors and not dress more formally than her. A time appropriate "cocktail" dress would be perfect--add a jacket to bump up the formality. Don't wear any colors that are too bright, especially red. And, wear nothing too revealing.
It's too bad the groom and his men will be wearing tuxes. Those are formal evening attire. But, it appears we are losing that battle as it seems that so few are following this rule any more.
I totally agree with Rebecca: you have to coordinate with the Mother of the Bride. Your dress should be the same formality and length as hers. Color-wise, it has to coordinate with 1) her dress and 2) colors of the bridal party. Elongated Jacket over dress would flatter your figure. It should have some shoulder padding to sharpen the silhouette and should fall below your hip line to look flattering. Avoid short jackets and shawls: they would not look flattering and would make you look heavier than you are. Invest in your hair and makeup to draw attention to your face. With all these elements combined, you will look fantastic! Enjoy the wedding! Irina Feygin, IMpeccable iMage, Inc. Image and Beauty and For Princess Bride
