MOG dress color for black and white wedding

I've tried to get information from the MOB regarding her dress selection, but she's waiting until just before the wedding. I'd rather start working on my selection because I'll have to have my dress made.

The wedding is a black and white wedding to be held October at 4:00pm followed by a dinner reception. The bridesmaids dress lengths (all according to preference) will be from knee length to floor length. I'd prefer not to wear black and I'm thinking about gray/silver, navy blue or grey/green, all colors that suit me.
Your advice would be much appreciated.

Dear Lee,

You should consult the bride. If she wants a black and white wedding, she may very well expect the mothers to dress in black.

Your dress shouldn't be more formal than the mother of the bride. This will be difficult since she won't choose one until directly before the wedding and you won't know what her choice of dress is. But, you could coordinate with the bridesmaids.

Best wishes,
