MOG gown in same material as bride's dress

For a small (20 guests) early evening, late September, large beach house wedding, the bride is wearing an off white, strapless, Dupioni silk, A-line, floor length gown; groom is wearing a tan suit. MOB is wearing a teal colored floor legth, chiffon sheath jacket dress with embroidery embellishments on the shell & jacket front.

As MOG, I have found a two piece, portrait collar, Dupioni silk, A-line, floor length gown, & wonder if it is appropriate to wear the same material as the bride. Also, I'm thinking of beige or a very light blue. Which color will compliment the MOB's dress best?

Thank you.

Dear Muvla,

I can address the etiquette portion of this question.

It isn't usually a problem wearing the same material as the bride as long as the dress doesn't appear to be a bridesmaids' dress or a bridal gown. Since yours is so similar, though, it may appear as if you are a bridesmaid. It may be best to wear something a bit less so. Plus, the dress should be conservative--nothing too revealing.

Best wishes,

Beige color would look better in photos next to MOB dress. It should not be a problem for you to wear the same material as the bride - the cut and the color of your dress is going to be entirely different. Portrait collar always looks very elegant. I am sure you will enjoy your dress tremendously!
