     MOG wearing black

Hello ladies, I am the mother of the groom and I am really having a tough time finding an outfit for the wedding. I have been told that ivory or cream is out because it is too close in color to the bride's white wedding dress. I have been told to wear neutral colors like pewter, silver, copper etc. I am blonde and very fair and I look so washed out in those colors. I found a beautiful black dress that I love. It covers up everything appropriately. It fits well and is very comfortable. How do you feel about black for the MOG? Oh, I should mention the MOB is wearing a shade of pink and the bridesmaids are also wearing a shade of pink. Thank you. I value your input.

Dear Snulk,

Black is usually just fine and considered a neutral. However, the bride stated her wishes for continuity and black with the other lighter colors would stand out. It may be best to find a shade of one of those colors that works with your skin tone. I'm a blond and wear gold tones all the time. I also wear Champagne, which is a blend of those colors. So, there must be something out there that would work for you.

It really is best to try to blend with the other women, especially the MOB.

Best wishes,

I totally agree with Rebecca: black is absolutely fine, but it would not look good with light pink tones of the dresses. Silvery blue or pewter would look great on you, and with the right touch of makeup you won't look washed out. A touch of bronzer and the right shade of lipstick would do the trick! Enjoy the wedding!
