Mosdest Looking Mother of Bride/Mother of Groom

I read with interest, all the replies about inappropriate exposure of skin by moms at weddings. As we are planning our son's wedding and shopping for appropriate dresses for the moms, we are finding that many retailers sell a whole lot of inappropriate dresses: slinky, low cut, backless, sleeveless, shoulderless, slits all the way up to never land... It is really difficult to find one that is modest without looking like it's a handmedown from 1960.

Keep shopping. You may be shopping at the wrong places. Be sure to visit the higher-end stores that do not cater just to juniors like Bloomingdales, Macy's, Saks or Lord and Taylor.

Or, shop online -

Dresses for Vow Renewals can also make terrific mother of the bride dress choices.

If you find a dress you love and it shows a little too much skin, see if they have a wrap, jacket or just some extra fabric to buy and you can have a shrug or shawl made. Good luck and enjoy the experience.

I agree. I find appropriate dresses all the time.
