     Mother of Groom Dress

The wedding will be at a hotel near the beach in Southern California in late September. Bridesmaids will be in brown and matron of honor in champagne long dresses. MOB has chosen a long stapless "truffle" color dress. As mother of the groom what shall I wear?

Also groomsmen will be in tuxes should my husband step-father (but more like a father) of the groom wear a tux? What if bio-father of the groom doesn't wear a tux would this still be appropriate?

Thanks!

Dear CLucas,

Actually, most colors would look great with those colors. Just don't choose red or brown. And, choose a dress that is not more formal than the MOB.

Her dress is not proper. Mothers do not wear strapless gowns. So, it is best to dress more conservatively.

The groom will tell his father and stepfather what he wishes them to wear. Usually fathers will dress the same as the groomsmen. But, sometimes if the fathers are not participating, they may dress as one of the guests. It is the groom's decision though.

Best wishes,
