Mother of the groom wearing informal dress when MOB is wearing formal
My Son is getting married in April, in a afternoon Wedding. The Wedding colors are Wine/cream. My future daughter-in law has asked the mothers to wear marine colors (?) to stand out from the wedding party.
The MOB has selected a floor length, blue spaghetti strapped dress. I don't know if she will be adding a shawl. I consider it an evening gown. She is also walking the bride down the aisle. I have always been a causal type person, I just can't see myself wearing a formal dress at all. Can I wear a mid length skirt/ blouse in a nice floral print?
Both my Son and Daughter in law as stated they want everyone to wear whatever is comfortable. I want to look good for the both of them, but I'm not the formal attire type. What should I wear?

Congratulations on your Son's wedding! Your dress should be the same formality as Mother of the Bride's dress. It's very sweet for the Bride and Groom to suggest comfortable dress for everyone, but you have to think of the formal wedding photos and the way the attire of the Bride and Groom's families is going to look. You might find an elegant dress which is not necessarily an evening gown, but reflects the formality of the Mother of the Bride's dress while being comfortable enough for you to wear. I completely agree. This may be the first time some family members meet you and as the old saying goes, "You only one get one chance to make a first impression."
Many times, there are expectations when it comes to dress, and this is one of those times. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now

Thanks ladies for the reply. It's not what I wanted to hear, but it's what I expected.
