Pants suit okay for mother of the bride?

We are planning an October garden wedding in southern California for my daughter. Bridesmaids are wearing tea length dresses of plain black satin. I feel a long dress would be too fancy, but I have varicose veins and would prefer to wear a dressy pants suit over a short dress. My daughter tells me it is very "in" for the mother of the bride to wear a pants suit, but my lady friends say it's complely inappropriate. I would appreciate your thoughts! Unsure

Dear Pants,

Your pant suit will be fine as long as it is made of good quality material. There are some lovely silk pant suits that would be wonderful, especially since the ladies will be wearing satin.

Sincerely,
