Step MOB Attire, Step daughter chose Crimson Red

The wedding party is wearing a deeper blue color, men with black and grey. MOB is wearing a plum shade, picked out by the bride. My stepdaughter went shopping with me for a dress recently and she chose a deep crimson red dress for me to wear. All the posts I see say Red is taboo. Her dress is an ivory and very vintage/classic. The dress we selected is a bit on the classic side as well, just red. In the dark the dress is a bit darker because of the crimson. As the stepmother, I'm only mid-30s and want to be classic/tasteful without outshining. I would be considered one of the mothers and not just a guest. Help.

The color red will attract attention from the bride so please choose another color. It sounds as though she's going for a "gemstone" look so maybe a gold or emerald?
