I am a petite young looking mother of the groom. I started dress shopping, & found that most of the dresses that I look the best in are strapless. I read your comments that you feel mothers of the bride/groom should not wear strapless dresses to their child's wedding. I'm just curious to why you feel that way.

Re: [BSOBEL] Strapless dress for mother of the groom

Dear Bsobel,
It really is logical and fair. A strapless gown is more revealing and draws the eye. No one, including mothers should be competing with the bride or her attendants. Mothers should be dressed conservatively to display respect for the couple and the ceremony. This is especially true for the mother of the groom. You would never want to dress more formally or to draw more attention than the mother of the bride. It would be an insult and most likely embarrassing for the couple and yourself.

Thank you for your answer. If I do decide to purchase a strapless dress, I would make sure it came with a shawl for coverage during the ceremony. And, I would never think of upstaging the bride- my future daughter-in-law. Also, her mother will be wearing a chiffon pants outfit, & I am sure you will look lovely. We all all look appropriate.
