I am attending my step-daughter's wedding and confused about what to wear. I am significantly younger than the mother of the bride and want to make sure I dress appropriately.
The wedding is a 5:30 PM with reception following.

If you are being treated as one of the mothers (seated special), then you would coordinate with both mothers, not dressing more formally then either an very conservative. But, typically the step mother dresses as one of the guests. A conservative cocktail dress would probably be fine depending on the formality of the event.
