What should the mothers wear to the wedding?

I am having a December wedding at 4pm. My bridesmaids are in a deep red, not quite burgundy. I have no idea what to tell the mothers to wear. I have a mother and stepmother, both of whom are involved in the wedding, and the mother of the groom. I don't want to have them in all the same color but I can't seem to find 3 different complementary colors I like. My only color is the deep red. Please help!

Dear Nmcginnis,

Red would not be a good color. But, black would be. Even though we typically do not want the mothers in the same color, black is the one big exception. Sometimes the bride will want the continuity that black affords. Plus, it looks awesome with red. And, it is usually complimentary on everyone.

Best wishes,
