What to Wear to a Black Tie Wedding

I'm the step-mom of the Groom to be. Both MOB and MOG will be part of the Wedding. The wedding invitation states a Black Tie wedding. I feel very intimidated never having attended a Black Tie affair before. Does that mean that the color of my dress needs to be BLACK or not? What do I wear to a black tie wedding?

Dear Black Tie Phobic,

Not to worry. This is just a very good excuse to dress up and we women love to dress up, don't we?

If this event is in the evening, you would wear a long or short evening dress (elegant). If this is held during the day, you would wear a cocktail dress, elegant short dress, or a suit. It doesn't have to be black, just a color that is attractive.

Please do not wear red because it attracts attention away from the MOB.

Enjoy!
