acceptable dress color for the mother of the groom

There is quite a bit of disagreement about what would be an acceptable dress color for the mother of the groom for our wedding.

The wedding colors are white and red. (The only one wearing white is the bride)

The person whom the bride has chosen to help her has dictated the the MOB should be in silver/platinum and the MOG should be in gold.

The MOG has asked to wear a blue dress, but the bride's wedding coordinator has said it would be too patriotic.

Do you see any problem with a blue dress? What other possible colors would you suggest?

I am the groom and unfortunately stuck in the middle of this battle.

Thank you for your help.

If your wedding coordinator is so against blue, you can use silver/grey, bronze, deep plum, Aubergine and Burgundy for the Mothers of the Bride and Groom dresses. Let the Moms coordinate between themselves who is going to wear which color. Let them also ask advise from the sales professionals where they will be getting the dresses. Find out the color of flowers and you can coordinate with that, too. Also, keep in mind that Blue can be anything from Midnight Blue to Dusty Blue or Light Powder Blue. Maybe you can reach a compromise with your coordinator, but remember: the one who pays should be in control, and not the the opposite!

I think I should restate some of what I said earlier. She isn't really our wedding coordinator, but an employee at a chain bridal shop whom the bride looks to for advice.

The brides mom is no hurry to get a dress though she is looking. At the advice of the "coordinator" she is going to be wearing a platinum/silver color. My mother, on the other hand, is working with a local bridal shop for her dress. The owner seems to be rushing her to pick a dress so that there will be no problems with the supplier being out of stock in whichever dress my mother chooses.

Thank you so much for your help. I'll just have to convince the bride that she can give her opinion but she is not the one who makes the final choice.
