bride picks out dress for MOG?

My son's 20 year old fiance informed me that she picked out my dress for the wedding, and I haven't seen it yet. What if this dress is not my style and I don't feel comfortable wearing it? Should I be honest, or should I feel obligated to wear it? She wants the MOB and MOG to wear the same dress, but they have completely different styles and body types. What should I do?

Dear Momzilla,

You could suggest to her that you have read that the mothers do not dress the same, that it could appear as if you two are also attendants. I think she is confused and thinks that she picks out your attire the same as for her bridesmaids.

The mother of the bride chooses her attire based on the formality and color of the bridesmaids' dresses. Then the mother of the groom coordinates with her. It would be best to inform the young lady of this. If your relationship with her is not close, your son may have to speak to her.

Best wishes,
