     colour of mob dress

Help, I'm starting to panic regarding the colour of dress that I'm wearing to my daughter's wedding.

The wedding is at the end of May, outdoors at a country club. She'll be wearing white, the bridesmaids will be wearing long soft blue chiffon gowns. The MOG is wearing a long skirt with two side splits up each leg with a matching spaghetti strap top and jacket. Taupe colour.

My dress is long, bridesmaid style in the colour of apricot with a matching shall. I have been starting to worry that I'm going to clash with colours and perhaps be mistaken for a bridesmaid when people first see me. I wish now that I had chosen something more conservative in colour....it's too late to take it back and I can't really afford to purchase another dress.....please help, will this colour look awful with the blue bridesmaids colours..and will I look too formal compared to MOG? I'm a young MOB and the dresses that were classified "mob" were awful and looked like something that an 80 year old would wear, so I selected something from the bridemaid section of the dress store. My daughter thinks it's fine. But now I'm not sure about my choice. Thanks

Don't worry. As long as your dress is not too revealing, you will be fine! The colors are not going to clash. They will be nicely contrasting. Add an elegant silk flower or a brooch to your outfit and that will make it elegant and distinctively not bridesmaid's style. Enjoy the wedding!

I agree. As long as you are conservative--not strapless--you should be fine.

Thank-you for your quick reply.

I didn't realize there was so much emphasis on the MOB dress as this is the first time for me as MOB.

I think I'm worried because the dress is formal and I don't want to look over the top. It wasn't until I was speaking to the sales ladies when they informed me that the MOB dress was very important and how the formality should match that of the bridal party. I was originally only going to purchase a tea length dress of some sort, not too formal.

I just want to say thanks.

The dress is strapless but I will be wearing a shawl. I'm not sure what to do about this now as I didn't realize it was taboo when I purchased it. After reading some of these posts I now realize it's not appropriate. What should I do?

You can drape the shawl nicely and secure it with an elegant brooch or a silk flower. This way, it will cover the shoulders and will look nice. Usually, it is advisable to get a dress with a bolero jacket. However, a nicely draped shawl will do. You can still look for a separate bolero jacket in lace: they are available at special occasion dress sections of major department stores. It could be of silver, gold or contrasting color. This way, you will be able to use it many times for formal occasions after the wedding. Enjoy!

Thank you both for your reply. I will try and look for a nice brooch or bolero jacket.
