dress attire for mother of the groom

The bridesmaids dresses are black with red accent. The mother of the groom is wearing a floor length black dress. What do I wear???? I know I'm supposed to follow her lead w/ the floor length dress . . . but what do I do about the color of my dress?

Dear Ivhensley,

I'm guessing you meant that the mother of the bride is wearing the black floor length dress and go from there.

Typically mothers dress is different colors that blend together. But, sometimes, especially with black as a bridesmaid's color, the bride wishes the mothers to follow suit. The mother of the bride wouldn't typically dress in the same color as the bridesmaids. So, it may be best to ask if this is what the bride has in mind. All black seems to be very popular these days.

If another color is expected, most all would be fine as black blends with all of them. Just stay away from red.

Best wishes,
