formal or informal mother of bride dress?

My daughter's wedding is happening in november (southeast USA),at 2 pm outside in the yard of an antebellum mansion, reception inside--not totally formal but....her dress is strapless, full length, white satin and organza ballgown style but no train, the flowergirl and jr. bridesmaids are tea length white satin and organza. Colors are pale green, white, deep rose. I have a green-aqua dress (closest I could get to the green shade used in the wedding), crepe, slightly below knee length, with sheer jacket with green-aqua color pearls scattered on the jacket. However, several people have told me I MUST wear a more formal dress-full length, more "sparkle." I thought an afternoon wedding, outside would require knee length or "tea" length dress. Am I wrong? Should I wear floor length? Help!!

Our experts take the time to answer your posts. Please show your respect by taking the time to use proper spelling, grammar & punctuation.

This is not only important because improper spelling, grammar and punctuation can give a bad impression of you, it is also important for conveying the message properly. Posts with no full stops or commas, too many exclamation points and question marks are difficult to read and can sometimes even change the meaning of the post. ALL CAPS is read as yelling. And, our program has a spell checking option, so be sure to use it.
