future mother in law needs a small makeover

My future mother in law needs a make over. She has smoked for over 20 years and does not style her hair. I saw her at her sons wedding and she did not look as well as I think she can. My uncle is a hair dresser and I am good with fashion. Plus, I am planning a much classier wedding and I want her to look her best. Would it be rude for me to "surprise" her with a spa day for me and her to get her hair done and go to pick out her dress. Do you think it is wrong for me to offer this? Although, I do believe she would be very receptive to the offer and would enjoy having her hair professionally done, which has never happened for at least the 4 years that I have known her. I would never tell her my motives, but how should I word it if I ask her. I don't want to offend her or make it sound patronizing.

Dear Tommysbride,

I doubt that you could offend her. If you surprise her with a 'girls day out', what mom wouldn't love that?? Just keep that focus and she will, most likely, feel loved. I know I would.

Best wishes,

Oh, just say, "Hey, mother-in-law-to-be, I would like to spend some quality, one-on-one time with you before the wedding. I've scheduled a spa day where we'll be pampered and do some bonding. Will (insert date) be good for you?

Who could resist such an offer? If she doesn't want to go, come back and one of us will, I'm sure. Smile

If she chooses not to attend, though, please don't be upset. There's more to your groom's mom than meets the eye. After all - she did raise your soulmate, right?
