     mob dress with pattern

I am mob and have a dress I would like to wear - it is silk in a cream colour with brown stylized flowers and street length. The brides dress is eggshell and the bridesmaids are wearing full length apple green (carrying pink flowers). I have already bought the dress and a silk brown shawl (the same colour as the brown flowers in the dress). Do you think my choice is too bold? My daughter says if it goes with the other colours and I like it, it will be okay (she hasn't seen it yet). I want this to be her day and certainly don't want to be inappropriately dressed. The wedding is August and the MOG is probably waiting on me.

Dear Atlantic,

Length is only one component of the formality of a dress, but it is a consideration. Yours is street length, while the bridesmaids' are full length. This means that theirs may be much more formal than yours. Yours should be in the same formality as theirs.

Another concern is that yours is a shade of white and so is theirs. You shouldn't be confused with the attendants because your dress has a pattern, but the shades shouldn't be the same or clash--difficult.

It is difficult to know if the pattern is too bold without seeing it. Only you can make that decision as you can see it, although it is probably fine.

Best wishes,

Thanks so much for your reply. It helps to have an outside opinion!

Turns out after talking to my daughter again, not all the bridesmaids have the same length of dress - one is kind of cut down the side and one is ankle. I know it sounds a bit strange, but I think it will work as the pattern and material (kind of a silk looking material)are the same.

I meant the brides dress was white - not the bridesmaids - their dresses are apple green and they are carrying pink gerbera daisies.

My dress is actually a little longer than street length and I think the brown on ivory goes well with the apple green - it was the pattern I was more worried about.

Congratulations on your daughter's wedding! Yes, Brown with Ivory would go very well with Apple Green. As to the pattern, it is very difficult to advise on that, since we don't see it. If the bridesmaids' dresses are of different length and yours is a bit longer than street length, it might work well. Choose your accessories to compliment the brown in your dress, and enjoy the wedding!
