     mother of bride dress

My son will be married 8/09. The bride will wear a long ivory lace gown. The groom, groomsmen and fathers will wear tuxedos. The bridesmaids are wearing knee length chocolate brown dresses. The MOB is talking about wearing a knee or tea length gown. I would prefer long. I am petite and would rather not have to worry about the length of the dress. I would have more options in long. Must I follow her lead?

Dear Pat,

Choosing a dress a year in advance is probably not the best idea. There are too many variables and their plans could change. But, yes. You are supposed to follow her lead. The length of the dress is only one component of formality. But, more often than not, full length is more formal than knee.

Best wishes,
