mother of groom dress looks like prom dress

The bride has asked me to wear hot pink. Her mother is wearing an aqua, knee length dress with a jacket. I wear a size 6. I'm having a very hard time finding a modest, not prom-ish dress. Do I please the bride, which is fine with me, ending up with a modest but prom-ish dress, or tell her I need to wear another color to fit tradition? I chose a dress that the bride likes, but my friends say is too promish.

If the bride is pleased with the dress that you chose, and you feel comfortable in it, you should respect the bride's wishes over your friend's opinion. Hot pink is becoming a popular chioce for accent colors at weddings, and many prom dresses cross over to wedding use. Bottom line is that it is the bride's wedding, and whether or not she has great taste, you should do whatever you comfortably can to help her achieve her vision.
