Hi. My daughter is getting married at the end of july and is having formal wedding. I have found a beautiful dress, but it's black. My daughter thinks it's not appropriate for me to wear black. She is wearing an ivory dress and the bridesmaid are in a very light maize colored dress. Please help! Can I wear black or should I stick to a more neutral color.

I personally agree with your daughter on this one. Since your daughter's gown is ivory, and her bridesmaids attire is light maize, I would definitely suggest that you go for a more neutral color.
While black dresses are classy & elegant, it is not quite an appropiate color for weddings, according to some people. Go for a taupe, gold or a summer color - it'll compliment the bridal party's attire more evenly than a black dress would.

Definitely. Traditionally the mother of the bride wears an outfit that compliments the bridesmaids in formality and color. Black is not in that family of colors. Rebecca Black, Etiquette Now
