I am the stepmother of the groom,I am to be seated as one of the mothers. The bridesmaids are wearing black floor length dress, the MOG will wear a floor length cream dress, and the MOB will wear either a gown in the red family or navy blue. The MOB told me to wear whatever makes me feel comfortable. I have found a Montage navy gown, off the shoulders, with floral print. I am 47 and in wear a 6 or 8 and this style does not appear to be the typical jacket style MOG dress. What do you think?

Dear Momstep,

I'm concerned about the 'off the shoulder' look. It might be fine as long as you think that you will not steal away any attention from the other two mothers. This is the major concern. It would be better to find one with a jacket. But, this may work. Just scrutinize it well.

FYI: It would be best if the MOB didn't wear red. You may want to alert her to this. Some of the red 'family' can be appropriate. But, red is a strong color that draws the eye. No one would want to draw the eye from the bride.

Best wishes,
