mother of the groom dress color

The MOB is wearing ivory; the bridesmaids are to be in pale yellow, carrying red roses; the men in black tuxes, and the bride in white, carrying red and yellow flowers. I am afraid that whatever color I (MOG) choose, I will stand out too much in the pictures, unless I wear black like the men, and I really don't like that idea either.

Sooo--my question is: Would a soft or a bright color be better for me (mother of the groom)? I have seen dresses that I like in light blue, violet, dove gray, sage, navy, bright royal, and turquoise. Which of these would blend in better with the rest of the wedding party, or is there another color I should try to find?

The bride has told me that she and her mother don't care what I choose. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dear MOG,

Your dress should be a soft color, rather than a bright one. Any soft color like peach, celadon, lavendar, dove gray, or pink would look best. I know you don't want to wear black, but if you want to wear a darker color, chocolate brown would look great. Chocolate is a great color combination when paired with ivory and pale yellow. Plus it is the new black this season. So you can have a classic, formal look without wearing black for a change. Have fun shopping!

Good luck,
