My future daughter-in-law has told me the wedding colors are plum and gold. Bridesmaids are wearing plum. Her mom is wearing a dark magenta long gown and her grandmother is wearing lavender.
I am a blond, size 8 mom. I would like to wear black. Would this be the best color? I think that I would find it difficult to find another color that would blend with the other gowns and also be complementary to me.

Dear Mother of the groom,
As the mother of the groom, it is your goal to compliment the bridal party and the mother of the bride while not being the same. Black is a color that will work with anything. There are no longer taboos attached to black and red at a wedding. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com

Dear MOG,
Wearing black will work perfect with the color scheme...black goes with everything! It will probably be easier for you to find a dress style that you like best in black, too. You will have more options than if you are set on a color, it might be harder to find the dress. Black is elegant and classy, plus you can always wear it again!
