proper attire for mother of bride and groom

Can you please tell me the proper etiquette for the MOB and MOG to follow. Such as color matching, I know the MOG should not be more formal than the MOB, but what are the rules per say to the wedding etiquette? I need help fast on this! Crazy

The mother of the groom waits for the mother of the bride to select her dress. Then, mog coordinates, but does not match, her formality and color.
