     6pm Reception in late October

My boyfriend's friend got married in another state and now they are having a dinner reception at a legion hall. My boyfriend keeps downplaying it and says if I dress up fancy I'll be out of place. But it's still a wedding reception and would probably wear a dress if he didn't feel so uncomfortable about it. I'm thinking dressy pants with a silky top and tailored blazer? Or a cocktail dress? (ps - I am 23)

Dear Wants to Dress Up,

I would have gone with the dress, except for your boyfriend's apprehensions. Perhaps he knows something we don't. Your pants and blazer is still dressy casual and is a good choice. You should be fine in that.

Best wishes,
