Appropriate to wear black to a wedding?

I have this silk dress in black. Is this appropriate to wear to a 5pm wedding in June? Should I carry an evening clutch, wear a silk wrap to lighten it up or add a colorful brooch? Is black okay to wear for a wedding? I've had three people- including my mother ask, "Are you really going to wear black?"

Dear Wearing the Black,

It is completely appropriate. Black is fine these days. However, if the wedding is in a church, you would want to wear a cover-up.

Best wishes,
