     Formal Attire for wedding guests?

Help! My husband and I have been invited to a 6PM wedding (followed by dinner and dancing) in Baltimore, MD. Is cocktail attire appropriate (little black dress and suit) or should we go the more formal route? No attire is mentioned. The invitations are lovely and elegant.

Thanks for your help!

Dear Formal Attire,

I would imagine that this would be the safest route. I always think, "When in doubt, wear the little black dress."

Best wishes,

Wedding invitations never mention the type of attire required unless it is black or white tie. You can guess at the type of dress that's expected by the formality of the invitation, time of day and location of the wedding reception.

Try asking others what they are wearing or speak to those close to the bride and groom to find out the formality of the wedding.

Don't wait until a few days before to decide what you'll wear and always have a backup dress just in case.
