I will be attending an indoor wedding/reception in October with my fiance. This is a semi-formal, evening event and he is a member of the wedding party (actually a pseudo-bridesmaid if you will) and will be wearing a tux with a lavender vest. There will be no women in the wedding, as both the bride and groom have chosen men to be members of their wedding party. I would like to coordinate with my fiance by purchasing a tea length strapless dress in the same color lavender. However I do not want to look as if I am trying to force my way into the wedding party by coordinating. I know we will be having our picture taken quite a bit as we are getting married next year and this will be the first time I will be meeting extended family during our five year relationship. Please let me know if my plan is appropriate or if I should wear a different color entirely. Thanks!
Michelle

Dear Michelle,
It would not be proper or polite to match the bridal color. You should dress as one of the guests. Even in the pictures it would be better if you didn't match his formality or colors. You could coordinate with his colors though. So, choose something with a color that blends with his.
