Guest attire for Newport, Rhode Island Mansion evening wedding

Greetings!

I'm attending a 7PM wedding that will take place in one of the Newport, Rhode Island mansions. Knowing that it's formal attire, I'm wondering if a floor length black gown with a short jacket (both covered in sequins) is too much?

Dear Formal Wedding,

Only the most formal of affairs would call for sequins. I'm thinking that sequins on the dress and jacket may be too much. If it at all possible, contact a family member of the couple to find out for sure. These affairs can be quite formal.

My choice would have been the long black dress without the sequins. So, please try to find someone who is on the inside.
