Guest attire for October Afternoon Wedding Reception at 5.

I am to be a guest at the wedding of one of my husband's co-workers and I would like to know if the dress that I am thinking of wearing to a wedding in October is appropriate. The wedding is at 2 PM and the reception is being held at a military type hotel at 5pm. I have a black, ankle length, spaghetti strap dress with some beading down the side. Do you think this dress is appropriate to wear to this wedding?

Dear Guest,

Unless this is a very formal wedding, you would be dressed too formally. Beading is very formal, plus the length connotes formal.

You could either dress as you would to a very nice restaurant or in cocktail attire. It is difficult to know without knowing how formal this is. If the invitation is formal, go with the cocktail attire. If is not, go with the restaurant type attire.

If this wedding is in a church, dress more conservatively. Cover the shoulders.

Best wishes,
