Is a black skirt & white top ok to wear

Hi, I am attending a formal evening wedding in July. My husband (the grooms brother) and children are all in the wedding party. The men/boys will wear black tuxs and the flower girls are wearing white with red petals. I am not in the wedding party but since I will be taking pictures with the rest of my family, I do not want to look out of place. I was told that it is ok to wear black to a wedding these days, however, all of the bridesmaids will be wearing black. Someone suggested that I wear a long black skirt with a fancy white top. Would that be dressy enough? Would those colors be ok? If not, what would be a good colore for me to wear?

Thanks for your input.

Dear Sis in law,

Usually you would be dressed as one of the guests, but you are right. You will need to step it up just a bit. The outfit you describe sounds good if it is high quality. The material must look rich in texture. But, black would be fine as long as the dress doesn't look like any of the other dresses. So many others will probably be dressed in black that it doesn't matter.

Best wishes,
