Is this appropriate for 4:00 wedding, 5:30 reception?

I will be attending the wedding of one of my co-worker's daughter's next month. It will be a church ceremony at 4 pm, with the reception at a nice restaurant nearby at 5:30. There was no mention of type of attire on the invitation.

I have a jacket that is a brocade type fabric that is patterned with a deep red and black. The overall effect of the jacket is more black than red and it is very dressy looking. Would this be appropriate paired with a black dress or a black skirt or is this too dressy for this time of day?

Dear Beanie 1972,

This does sound like it's a bit too dressy for the time of day and a restaurant reception. Stay with the black dress and another not so dressy jacket.

I agree. If you just dress as you would for a nice restaurant, you'll be fine.

Thanks for your help. I was afraid it might be too dressy.
