I've been invited to my cousins wedding on July 15. It is a church wedding at 3:30 with the cocktails and reception to follow at the attached church hall at 5:30. The dress I'm considering wearing is a black with tiny white polka dots halter type dress. My husband thinks this is too casual however I think it looks quite dressy. However, I don't have a jacket to wear over it and was considering wearing a lightweight black sweater over top. Does this seem appropriate for the event I've described?

Dear Appropriate Dress,
It is difficult to discern from the photo. The dress could be more of a sundress if made of cotton. So, if you consider this to be something you would wear to the nicest restaurant on a first date, then you are fine.
The sweater or some sort of cover-up is appropriate for church.
