     July Wedding Attire

I have to go to my cousins wedding in July. The ceremony starts at 5pm and I'm not too sure if the dresses I have are appropriate for this setting. It doesn't specify on the invitation on the type of attire. However, the wedding is going to take place in an estate on a beach. I have a black tube dress that goes down to a little below my knees, I have another black halter dress that goes down to an inch below my knees but with a much much smaller hole on the top and of course longer length. I also have a white dress with silver shoes. Are any of these appropriate for the occasion? If not, what would you suggest?

Dear July Wedding,

It looks as if all of these dresses reveal a lot. The second dress would be fine as long as it is not too revealing. We would want to stay away from appearing too 'seductive' at weddings. This is the same reason we don't wear red. It is because we don't want to attact too much attention to ourselves. The wedding day is all about the bride.

Typically, we don't wear white for the same reason. It is the bride's color. Plus, the third dress could make it appear as if you are in the bridal party.

The look you are going for is cocktail attire, so you are right on there. It is the little black dress or its equivalent. For this function, though, it is best to think 'classy'.

Best wishes,
